01Why the Beloved Are Tested Most0:006:00

Bismillāhir-Raḥmānir-Raḥīm. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Master Muḥammad ﷺ, his family, his Companions, and all who follow them in goodness until the Day of Judgement. Today, my dear brothers and sisters, we turn our attention to the matter of the prophetic principle that the greatest in trial are the greatest in rank. This is not a small subject. The Qur'ān addresses it directly, the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ details it, and the lives of the Ṣaḥābah show us how it is to be lived. We must ask ourselves honestly — when we wake in the morning, when we sit with our families, when we walk through the marketplaces of this world, are we conscious of Allah? Or have we allowed the dunyā to so occupy our hearts that the ākhirah has become a distant rumour? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said that the heart is between two of the fingers of the Most Merciful — He turns it as He wills. So we must constantly ask Him: Yā Muqallib al-qulūb, thabbit qalbī ʿalā dīnik. O Turner of Hearts, keep my heart firm upon Your Religion. Let us reflect deeply, and may Allah grant us tawfīq to act upon what we hear.

Today, my dear brothers and sisters, we turn our attention to the matter of ṣabr at obedience, against disobedience, upon decree. Today, my dear brothers and sisters, we turn our attention to the matter of the balance between effort and reliance.
